MechLok®

Patented Technologies
MechLok®
Lockable Swivel Line
Run on the drill string, this mechanically lockable drill pipe swivel allows the drill string to rotate independently from the work string.
Application
The MechLok® can be deployed on any string where reaching target depth is a risk.
100% Mechanical Lock
Multiple locking methods are available depending on tool variant, suiting a wide range of well scenarios.
Maximizes Available Weight
Reduces drag and harmful torque, redistributes friction, and mitigates string buckling, increasing available weight to push completions and liners to target depth in even the most complex wells.
Reach Target Depth on the First Run
Maximize the chance of reaching target depth, even in ERD and high-drag horizontal wells. That means more reservoir completed and less NPT spent getting there.

Introduction

The MechLok® Drill Pipe Swivel, available in T, R, L and S variants, can be deployed on any string where reaching target depth is a risk.

Run on the drill string, it rotates the drill pipe above the liner or completion to reduce drag, redistribute friction, and mitigate helical buckling. This increases the available weight to push completions and liners to target depth in even the most complex wells.

Locking is fast, efficient and achieved through simple mechanical manipulation of the string, no ball drop, no hydraulic concerns, with multiple locking methods available to suit a wide range of well scenarios.

Locks Mechanically, Fast and Efficient

Fast and efficient locking through simple mechanical manipulation of the string, no ball drop, no hydraulics, and mechanical release of setting tools when required.

Works in any Direction

Rotates left or right, in tension or compression, with the drill pipe turning independently of the work string below.

Compatible with any String

Four variants and multiple locking methods cover a wide range of well scenarios, available as a rental product on any drill string.

How It Works

Locked With a Turn of the String

In extended reach and highly deviated wells, drag and helical buckling limit the weight available to push a completion or liner to depth. Conventional answers, heavy-weight drill pipe or collars, add cost and complexity to the string.

The MechLok® swivel decouples the problem: the drill pipe above rotates to redistribute friction along the wellbore, while the liner or completion below stays static, protected from potentially harmful torque. When rotation needs to stop, the tool locks rapidly through simple mechanical manipulation of the string.

The result is completions and liners reaching target depth where conventional approaches can't deliver the weight. With lighter strings and no reliance on hydraulics or ball drops downhole.
