Heavy-Weight Drill Pipe

Heavy-Weight Drill Pipe

Drill String Transition Pipe

Introduction

Heavy-Weight Drill Pipe is the intermediate step in the drill string, a transition between drill pipe and drill collars that lets more weight run in the wellbore.

Run in conjunction with standard drill pipe and collars, HWDP reduces hole drag and fatigue damage, carrying weight the drill pipe alone shouldn't, without the stiffness of a full collar section.

Premium's Heavy-Weight Drill Pipe inventory ranges from 3½" to 5½", supported by the quality maintenance program applied to every tubular before it leaves the warehouse.

Reduces Fatigue Damage

Bridges the stiffness change between rigid collars and flexible drill pipe, protecting the string at its most vulnerable point.

Less Hole Drag

Distributes weight along the string rather than concentrating it, reducing drag in the wellbore.

Sized to Match

3½" to 5½", covering the same size range as Premium's drill pipe inventory.

How It Works

The Transition the String Needs

Where rigid drill collars meet flexible drill pipe, the abrupt change in stiffness concentrates bending stress and that's where fatigue failures start.

HWDP sits between the two as an intermediate-weight component, stepping the string down gradually from collar stiffness to pipe flexibility. That transition allows more weight to be run in the wellbore while reducing the hole drag and fatigue damage that come from loading standard drill pipe beyond its design role.

The result is a string that carries weight where it's needed and flexes where it should, with the vulnerable interface between pipe and collars protected.
